ANONYMOUS ILLUSTRATORJuvenile Miscellany, 1829, Volume 2, Issue 2

Both amusing and instructive, this playful image is typical of the Juvenile Miscellany’s
approach to conveying moral values to its young readers. Three children vie for the attention of the little girl seated in the center. Though the girl in the middle is adored, she does not seem arrogant or superior; rather, she has a kind and gentle air. Mrs. Child would certainly have approved.
